There is no ocean here,

no salt water or waves.

There is only tap water,

flowing over broken glass.

There is only you,

pouring a glass of orange juice

in the refrigerator light.

Remember when i fell and chipped my tooth?

i was walking my dog,

the sun was scorching and golden,

the air smelt of freshly cut grass

and cherry-coke.

My dog spotted you across the road

and ran.

I tripped on an uneven crack on the sidewalk, and

the pavement was sticky-sweet

when i tumbled upon it.

I hit my chin so hard on the ground

that i began to bleed;

metallic blood mingled with spilt soft-drink.

I did not even cry

until I realized my tooth had chipped.

You had taken a piece of me once more,

and I think there is a metaphor there somewhere.
